Mid-Term Performance Evaluation of Jamaica Positive Pathways

About the Evaluation

Mid-Term Performance Evaluation

The Project: LINC conducted the mid-term performance evaluation of the Positive Pathways Activity in Jamaica.

The Positive Pathways Activity aimed to prevent community violence by means of a collaborative, problem-solving, positive youth development (PYD) approach. This approach is evidence based and focuses on building resilience in youth, parents, caregivers, and communities in target areas.

The Activity employed various tools and strategies, including social and behavioral science, sport-for development, and positive deviance, with a view to creating an impact on individuals, communities, and systems.

Positive Pathways worked in 12 hotspot or “opportunity” communities where crime and violence are the highest across four parishes in Jamaica: Kingston/St. Andrew, St. James, St. Catherine, and Clarendon.

Purpose: The purpose of the performance evaluation was threefold:

  1. To assess how the Positive Pathways activity’s interventions for parents and families of youth participants have increased youth resilience to crime and violence;
  2. To assess the ways in which the Positive Pathways activity has reduced the risk of crime and violence for the target youth participants, and;
  3. To examine the extent to which private sector engagement has contributed to addressing the risk and resiliency levels of the targeted youth, their families, and their communities.

The evaluation was completed in April 2024 in partnership with The Cloudburst Group.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column]
