About the Project
The USAID/Mexico Southern Mexico – Generating Employment and Sustainability (SURGES) is a $29M, five-year (2022 – 2027) program.
The goal of the program is to mobilize investment and sales to support sustainable growth in south-southeastern Mexico. SURGES will connect buyers and small-holder farmers committed to sustainable environmental practices with the goal of promoting conservation and income generation across key value chains (e.g., coffee, cacao, honey, and ecotourism). SURGES will also work with financial institutions to develop or strengthen financial products tailored to the needs of producer organizations and small and medium enterprises.
As a subcontractor to Palladium International, LINC will apply systems thinking methods to unpack the complexity of market systems in Southern Mexico and will provide ongoing inputs to foster enabling environments, context-aware interventions, and institutional capacity building.
More specifically, LINC will use the Market Systems Mapping tool and produce a Structural Factor Analysis of prioritized value chains, including coffee and tourism. This analysis will provide the basis for 1) developing SURGES implementation strategies in the selected value chains, and 2) identify and prioritize enabling environment barriers and gaps.
